Ras Al Khaimah, Jan 29th, 2006(WAM)-- Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah , inaugurated the state-of- the-art tableware plant of RAK Porcelain LLC at a function held at the company premises here last evening The company manufactures top of the range porcelain tableware and is billed to gain stature as one of the top quality suppliers of exquisite tableware in the industry.

In his inaugural address, Sheikh Saud said that the launch of RAK Porcelain marks the addition of yet another successful enterprise in the industrial sector of Ras Al Khaimah. He said that the Government of Ras Al Khaimah is proactively working to encourage businesses and is making efforts to remove barriers, if any, that hampers investment.

"The establishment of many new ventures like the CSEM (Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology, Inc.) Technology Innovation Centre and the launch of the AED 1 billion EDRAK company are part of the efforts to transform the Emirate into a hub of business, research, education and tourism", he added.

RAK Porcelain LLC is a sister concern of RAK Ceramics, the Ras Al Khaimah based global leader in the ceramic industry. The new porcelain factory is set up at a cost of AED 80 million and will manufacture high grade alumina fully vitrified porcelain tableware for the hotel, catering and retail industry. The factory spreads over an area of 60,000 square meters with 1000 square meters earmarked for office space.

Dr. Khater Massaad, CEO of RAK Porcelain, said that the factory has a capacity to produce 15 million pieces of premium quality porcelain dinnerware per annum with its two production lines.
 
"The capacity could be doubled to 30 million pieces annually in a phased manner, which would make it one of the biggest porcelain tableware factories in the world", he said.
