ABU DHABI, 28 May, 05 (WAM) - The Union National Bank won theGolden Category Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award (SKEA) whilethe Emirates National Chemicals Company and Grand Mills for Flourand Fodder Company won the Diamond Category of the Sheikh KhalifaIndustrial Award for the private and government sectors respectively,today.
Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the AbuDhabi Crown Prince's Court and Honorary Chairman of the ADCCI,presented the awards at an impressive ceremony to mark the conclusionof the Sixth Cycle of the SKEA for 2004-05 and Sheikh KhalifaIndustrial Award held at the ADCCI auditorium here.
ADCCI President Sheikh Saeed Saif bin Jabr AlSuwaidi, members of the ADCCI Board of Directors, high governmentofficials and representatives of the private sector attendedthe ceremony. From next year the two awards will be merged into one insteadof two separate awards being presented until this year, it wasannounced. The Golden Category of the SKEA has been introduced for thoseestablishments and organisations which won the Excellence Awardsin the previous years. This year, Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award for Services sectorwas won by Al Noor Hospital and Condor Medical Waste ManagementCompany. For the industrial sector the award went to Al Ain DairyFarms, Al Ain Poultry Farm and Excellent Pipes Company. The awards for the professional sector in the SKAEA went to AlSalama Hospital While Crown Plaza Hotel, Abu Dhabi, bagged theaward for the Tourism sector. The Sheikh Khalifa Quality Recognition certificates, given tothe establishment which marginally failed to win the award, weregiven to Kanoo Travels (Tourism), Emirates Flour Animal FeedFactory (industrial sector), Engineering Maintenance Company(EMCO) and Fast Rent a Car (Services sector), Mohammed Issa OdehLaw Firm (Professional Sector) and Furnicon Royal Interiors (TradingSector). Three companies won the golden category of the Sheikh KhalifaIndustrial Award. They were Excellent Pipes Company, EmiratesCement Factory and Eldiar Furniture Manufacturing and DecorationCompany. Five companies were declared winners of the Silver Category:National food Products Company -Plastic, National Food Productscompany - Milco, Al Ain Mineral Water Company, Queenex corrugatedCartons Factory and Sigma Engineering Works. Bynounah Wellpipe Factory, Queenex Tissues Factory, All Wathba,al Mafraq and Al Ain concrete Blocks Factories, National BuildingIndustries Company, Bin Mansour Plastic Factory, Al Marfa Factoryfor processing and Packagingof Vegetables and Dates and FiberFlex Factory won the Bronze Category of the Industrial Award.Addressing the gathering Dr. Sheikh Sultan said that the SKEAacquired further importance and dynamism day after day and provideda benchmark for national companies for implementing total qualityconcepts at all stages of production.
"On the whole the Award's development criteria are aimed at servingthe society, to have a positive influence and stimulate organisationsto provide national cadres capable of leading the march of thenation, improve the capabilities and skills of the staff ofthe organisations in realization of their desired goals," Sheikh Sultan said.He said the "Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award adopts internationallyaccepted criteria, enhances the confidence that others reposein our national institutions, increases their competitivenessregionally and internationally, and strengthens the trade reputationthat the UAE enjoys as well as its role as a major hub for tradeand business in the region and the whole world." He expressedthe hope that the excellent organisations would not rest withthe winning of awards but would continue their effort and climbfurther heights.
Sheikh Sultan had a word of encouragement for those who participatedin the Award but did not find their names on the list of winners. He said their efforts deserved high appreciation and hoped thegood work they had done would be pursued further in their marchto progress and prosperity.Saeed Abdul Jaleel Al Fahim, Second Vice President of theADCCI and Chairman of the SKEA Higher Committee, in his addresssaid that the joint celebrations marked the merging of the SheikhKhalifa Excellence Award and the Sheikh Khalifa Industrial Awardfrom next year.
He said that the merging was based on the keenness to join theefforts and focus endeavours to further enhance the reputationand status of the programme, which is awarded in the name ofthe President of the nation. He said there was significant rise in participation in thisyear's Award programme. There was also a remarkable increasein the number of assessors by 95 per cent compared with lastyear, he said.Al Fahim said that the scope and reputation of the SKEA hasgone up considerably since it obtained the recognition of Europeanquality foundation and the British Quality Foundation.
He pointed out that the winning organisations had made positiveimpact in all spheres of society.
