ABU DHABI, May 5th, 2010: H.H Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women's Union (GWU) and Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) hailed the unification of the UAE Armed Forces in 1976 a great source of pride to the whole nation and as one of the fruits of the national unity solidly established by the late Founding Father Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan.

"The UAE Armed Forces are among the priorities of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces," said Sheikh Fatima in a statement to Dira' Al Watan magazine on the occasion of 34th anniversary of the Armed Forces Unification Day which is marked annually on May 6th.

Sheikha Fatima congratulated President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Their Highnesses members of the Supreme Federal Council and Rulers of the Emirates and H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikha Fatima also said the unification of the country's armed forces was "a step towards the implementation of the sovereign state's institutions and the realization of the union (federation) which is based on a shared future of our dear country where the army is the strong arm for boosting peace efforts and preventing the spread of chaos and destruction in today's world. All parties need a deterrent force to deter aggressors, defend people and the nation as well as boost development and progress based on comprehensive peace and stability."Sheikha Fatima also noted that the Khawla Bint Al Azwar Military School (KBAS) realizes the interest the UAE leadership takes in the role UAE females can play in serving and defending the UAE's interests as well as in the UAE's contributions to the protection of international peace around the world and providing humanitarian aid to countries in times of crises and disasters.
