Sharjah, Apr. 10, 2006 (WAM) -- H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin MohammedAl Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah will open heretomorrow the second edition of the Sharjah Arab Calligraphy Meeting,being organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information atthe Sharjah Arab Calligraphy Museum.

One hundred and fifty calligraphers, including 35 from Arab andIslamic countries, will showcase more than 700 pieces of their art worksduring the two months period of the annual event, which will kick-offwith an international seminar, to be held in the morning hours of tomorrow,under the theme "Calligraphy: Between creative thinking and copying".

A number of calligraphers will present working papers and research worksduring the seminar, which would be accompanied by a practical workshopin the art of Arab calligraphy.

The 7th Arab Calligraphy Competition would be launched duringthe opening ceremony of the meeting. The competition, which is being organised by the Istanbul-based Research Centre for Islamic History, Artand Culture, would be named after the late Iraqi calligrapher, HishamMohammed, popularly known as Al Baghdadi.
