SHARJAH, Sep. 24th, 2008: H.H Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, UAE Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah today made an inspection tour to the Zahra Square in Sharjah accompanied by Deputy Ruler and Crown Prince H.H Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al-Qassimi and Deputy Ruler H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Bin Sultan Al-Qassimi.
During the tour, Sheikh Sultan hailed the efforts to develop and rehabilitate the square which is one of the emirate's landmarks. Zahra Square is also known as Al-Sa'aa (the clock) Roundabout with a tower in the middle carrying the big famous clock which symbolizes the emirate's race against time to achieve more progress for its community. The square has been rehabilitated upon orders from Sheikh Sultan who also gave instructions to maintain the architectural spirit of the place which was built in the 1970s by the former Sharjah Ruler the late Sheikh Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi. The new look of the Zahra Square now features two vas-shaped fountains as well as some modifications to the clock tower, a new statue and minaret with a golden dome supported by bronze arches and granite-made columns.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2008.
