The total annual agricultural production of Semnan province is 1.12 million tons, of which 815,000 tons pertain to crops and 305,000 tons to horticultural products, said the head of Semnan Agricultural Jihad Department.

Seyyed Majid Mousavi also put the provincial farming lands at 198,191 hectares, including 154,881 hectares of dry and wet land farming, and 43,310 hectares with fruit-bearing trees, ISNA reported.

He said the city of Mayamey boasts the largest farming lands (56,000 hectares), which is followed by Shahroud (42,000 hectares), Damghan (31,000 hectares), Garmsar (30,000 hectares), Aradan (16,000 hectares), Semnan (9,000 hectares), Mehdishahr (6,000 hectares) and Sorkheh (5,000 hectares). Due to its diverse climate and fertile soil, Iran's agricultural products are rated among the best in the world.

Benefiting from 123,580 square kilometers of fertile land, the agricultural sector is one of the major contributors to Iran's economy. It accounts for almost 13 percent of Iran's GDP, 20 percent of the employed population, 23 percent of non-oil exports, 82 percent of domestically consumed foodstuff and 90 percent of raw materials used in food processing industries.
