Some 53 participants from 43 member countries in the Islamic Development Bank have met for the three-day seminar on "Agricultural Negotiations in the WTO" that began Monday morning.

"Agriculture has not only gained immense importance for the OIC ... but it has always been an important pillar of the OIC economies," said IDB acting president Sayed Jaafar Aznan.

Agriculture counts for 13 percent of OIC members' overall GDP, and "provides employment to a large segment of the population and ... export of the least developed member countries of the OIC," said Muhammad Nour Yacob, Malaysian rep to the WTO.
