Three operations to repair mitral valves through catheter operations instead of open-heart surgery were successfully carried out at the Armed Forces Hospital's Prince Sultan Cardiac Center (PSCC).

Commenting on the operations, cardiac consultant Dr. Muhaib Ahmed Abdullah said this type of procedure is considered the first of its kind in the Kingdom and this success comes on the heels of previous successes achieved by centers affiliated to the hospital's medical services departments.

The operations also come in line with the vision of the Armed Forces Medical Services aimed at promoting diagnostic and treatment services for patients and to stay abreast of the latest medical developments, he said.

Head of Catheter Operations and Cardiac Consultant Dr. Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Utaibi said the operations were carried out by a medical unit comprising only Saudis.
