Saudi Arabia has pledged $4.46 million in socio-economic grants to poor communities in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in an effort to boost the peace process in Southern Philippines, officials said.

The aid commitment was personally conveyed by Saudi Arabian Ambassador Mohammad Ameen Wali during an Iftar dinner with ARMM Gov Zaldy Ampatuan in Makati City.

Wali said the only requisite for the release of the fund is a comprehensive programme on how the ARMM plans to spend the aid for its socio-economic ventures.
