Sasref To Add Low Sulfur Diesel Unit To Jubail Refinery

The management of the Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery Company (Sasref) has approved plans to build a new unit at its 305,000 b/d export refinery in Jubail for the production of low sulfur diesel. The new unit is scheduled to go into production by the third quarter of 2009,  Sasref’s managing director Muhammad 'Abd al-Latif al-'Umair said.  Low sulfur diesel capacity will rise to 100,000 b/d with a sulfur content of 10 parts per million, compared to the current 10,000 parts per million, Mr 'Umair said. The construction of the new unit will be self financed without the need to resort to borrowing from banks, he added.  Sasref is a 50/50 joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Shell Saudi Arabia Refining.
