Abu Dhabi, June 24th 2010 (WAM) -- The management of Al Salam Street Project confirmed that the overall completion rate of Contract 2, which stretches from Sheikh Zayed Bridge up to Al Salam Street-Street No. 31 intersection, has reached approximately 86 per cent. Construction works for surface roads and utilities network in this area are in full swing with the aim of facilitating traffic movement along Al Salam Street and the Eastern Ring Road.
Al Salam Street Project is divided into four major parts called "Contracts". The first part (Contract 1) runs from the intersection of Hazza Bin Zayed Street up to Mina, specifically at the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. It consists of a 3.1km long tunnel (2kms will be covered and the remaining will be open) with around 2,000 construction workers. Contract 2 runs between Sheikh Zayed Bridge-Al Salam Street No. 31 intersection with an overall length of 4,102m and consisting of two 850m tunnels. About 1,000 workers are involved. Stretching from the intersection of Al Saada Street up to the intersection with Hazza Bin Zayed Road. Contract 3 consists of an 850m tunnel and a bridge leading to Al Reem Island with about 1,200 workers and finally, Contract 4 stretches from Al Salam Street-Street No. 31 intersection up to Al Salam-Street No. 19 intersection (Al Saada Street) and includes street expansion work with about 150 workers. The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has recently opened Delma-Sea Palace Road in both traffic directions. Traffic signals at Al Salam-Sea Palace intersection were operated outbound Abu Dhabi to better facilitate the flow of traffic and reduce pressure on Hazza bin Zayed Street and the Tourist Club area. Al Salam Street Project is a result of the coordination between the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Urban Planning Council, Department of Transport and General Command of Abu Dhabi Police. The project falls under the initiative of the municipality to contribute to the development of the city, and establish Abu Dhabis position as a truly modern metropolis on par with the best in the world. The mega infrastructure project is part of the municipalitys strategic aim to meet the requirements of a developing city, as well as respond to the needs of the growing population.
