Salalah, Oman: The new five-star Salalah Marriott Resort was opened on Wednesday under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Marhoon bin Ali Al Maamri, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar region.

Sheikh Nawaf bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman of Dhofar Tourism Company SAOG and representative of Qatar's Government who holds 49 percent shares under Qatar Holding in the Mirbat Beach project, said during the grand opening that "with the launch of Salalah Marriott Resort, we are proud to announce the development of a new destination -- the Mirbat Beach, which will be the finest and most opulent address in Salalah. We firmly believed that a luxury beach resort in the Mirbat Beach Project was a sound investment and due to our long-standing and successful relationship with other Marriott properties in the region, we have chosen to go in partnership with Marriott International, Inc as the resort's operator."

The opening of the unique Salalah Marriott Resort marks the first phase of the prominent Mirbat Beach project and the first Marriott operated property in the Sultanate of Oman. Surrounded by natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, Salalah Marriott Resort stands in the mystical city of Salalah, on the idyllic shores of the Arabian Sea, set alongside the white sandy beaches of Mirbat Cove, at the foot of Jebel Samhan, and only 80 kilometres from Salalah International Airport.

The resort offers the finest accommodation, modern banqueting, leisure and recreational facilities and amenities to meet the requirements of international leisure and business travellers.

Salalah Marriott Resort comprises 237 rooms offering a choice of scenic beach or mountain views. Guests can select from rooms located within the resorts main building or in the surrounding chalets, which house studios and one - and two-bedroom configurations.

Mirbat Beach is a one billion Omani Rial project developed by Dhofar Tourism Company SAOG in Mirbat, Sultanate of Oman.

This integrated development project covers a landmass of two million square meters with residential, commercial, tourism and entertainment facilities to be completed in five different phases. Mirbat Beach will feature 1,500 residential units (townhouses, village houses, villas and apartments) in addition to over 10,000 square meters of retail space and 10,000 square meters of office space. The project also features a second five-star hotel with 300 keys, a nine-hole golf course and clubhouse, a water park, a private hospital/clinic with helipad, nursery and childcare facilities, as well as an entertainment centre for adults and children.
