ROTANA HAS opened a hotel in the coastal Omani town of Salalah last month. The 400-key five star Salalah Rotana Resort is the largest free-standing hotel in Oman, claims Rotana. "We pride ourselves in identifying desirable travel destinations and are excited to begin a new journey today at the first hotel to be operated by Rotana in Oman," Rotana president and chief executive Omer Kaddouri said.
"Not only does it take us one step closer to reaching our ultimate vision but it has strengthened the company's standing as the leading hotel management company in the region.
"Drawing inspiration from the local landscape, the hotel's design features high ceilings and a central internally-lit handmade red clay dome to complement the wooden finishing and decorative mashrabiya latticework windows, the company says. It adds that in-room furnishings have been carved from desert rock while Arabesque geometric designs and stone archways, built using traditional techniques, resemble a cathedral atrium.
