Beirut (APD) - Construction of tunnels and bridges and roads asphalting projects totaling $227 million are underway in the city of Riyadh and Al Ahsa province in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-based business daily Al Iqtisadiah reported Thursday.

The municipality of Riyadh signed a contract worth SR 791 million ($211 million) with the Saudi-based Al Fawzani Contracting Company to asphalt streets in the southern part of the Saudi city for a period of 12 months.

Moreover, a project for the construction of tunnels and bridges is underway on the road linking the city of Mecca to Dhahran. This project is considered one of the largest projects undertaken by Al Ihssa municipality.

"The project has a cost of SR 59 million ($15.73 million). It aims to reduce traffic congestion at a railway crossing point," said Fahd Al Jubair the mayor of Al Ahsa municipality. [SN-FC]
