Muscat - The Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) has completed a project to expand water networks in the Wilayat of Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate at a cost exceeding RO 24 million, according to Ahmed bin Nasser al Abri, Director of Projects at PAEW. The project involved expanding water networks to towns, communities and the new residential schemes in the Wilayat of Nizwa, the Niyabat of Barkat Al Mouz and the Niyabat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar with a total length of 450 km of water pipelines. Other works related to the project included construction of a plant to boost the capacity of existing water pumping stations and installation of a main water tank in the Niyabat of Barkat Al Mouz and a further three water tanks in Khamila area with capacities ranging between 3,000 to 6,000 cubic metres.
The project also involves an integrated building for providing customer services and managing PAEW operations. Other facilities such as the control systems and water treatment units are also included in the building, the official said. Work is currently under way at a project designed to supply water to the Niyabat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar through construction of an integrated water distribution network. The project involves 6 plants to boost water pumping, extension of a 40-km water pipe from Barkat Al Mouz to Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, installation of 6 water tanks and 2 main water tanks and 24 concrete tanks to ease pressure on the water distribution network. The 150-km water distribution network will supply water to villages located within the Niyabat of Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, Al Abri said.
