BEIRUT: The Red Bull car drift show qualifications kicked off from Tripoli this week, sponsored by the Youth and Sports Minister Mr. Faissal Karami and in collaboration with the ATCL club.
In the first qualification round, and with almost 3,000 motorsports fans in attendance, driver Hassan Othman was crowned champion, and named King of Tripoli’s drifters, with his Nissan 350Z car, after an exciting challenge. Karami kick started the event, before the drivers started showing their talents, under the supervision of Middle East’s Rally champion Abdo Feghali.
Feghali did a few “entertainment” laps during the first round of the competition and stressed on the importance of organizing such competitions and events based on all safety standards.
The major part of each driver’s note is based on his drifting skills and the way he uses his car’s brakes to give more accuracy to his performance. The second part is based on the car’s outside look, the engine’s sound, the smoke that comes out of the tires as well as the crowd’s applauds.
The Red Bull car drift show qualifications will continue and there will be a similar event in each main city in Lebanon where there will be one champion in every event. Those champions will compete against each others in the final event that will take place at the Forum De Beirut, before choosing Lebanon’s representatives in the International competition that will take place on Sept. 22.
