Abu Dhabi, 25 Oct. 05 (WAM)--The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS)has earmarked Dh 500 million for its humanitarian projects nextyear, according to a top official at the charity agency.

In a get together meeting with media on Monday night, RCSchairman Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi said the agency had disbursedover Dh 100 million in aid this year.

He added that RCS' assistance reached out to the needy inmore than 50 countries.

"This year, we distributed over Dh 21 million worth of aidamong more than 6,000 families at the local level in additionto Dh 4.5 million in iftar meals and zakat al-fitr (end of Ramadanalms)," he stated, adding that around Dh 57 million has beenbudgeted for local aid.

Al Suweidi pointed out that more than USD 12.7 million inhumanitarian projects had been spent in most countries of theworld, particularly in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan.

He said RCS has collected more Dh 71 million this year fromfund-raising campaigns.

He cited the USD 100 million donated by President H.H. SheikhKhalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to quake victims in Pakistan asan example of aid offered by UAE to disaster-hit countries.

According to him, the RCS has allocated Dh 4 million forquake victims.
