RasGas' Shorebase Offshore Support team, part of its Offshore Asset Department recently celebrated another milestone in safety to mark the completion of some 16 years without a lost time incident (LTI) and 12 years without a recordable incident.
Congratulating the team for its "exceptional safety achievement", RasGas CEO Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi said it was the result of giving primary importance to safety in all company work activities."
Addressing a special ceremony held at Al Waha Club, Al Khor to mark the occasion, he said: "At RasGas, safety is more than just part of the job; rather it is a culture and hallmark of all employees. To remain 16 years without an LTI echoes RasGas' commitment to deploy the best safety practices and enforce safe working behaviour as a core element of the company's success in the LNG industry."
Hamad Mubarak al-Muhannadi, RasGas chief operations officer said, "All milestones are reminders of our responsibility to maintain the achievement; particularly when it is in safety, the responsibility becomes further significant as maintaining safety standards is not an easy task. In fact, it is more difficult to maintain the success than achieving it.
"Since the beginning of shorebase operations 16 years ago, there has not been a single lost time incident, and it has been 12 years since the last recordable incident. During these 16 years, the team supported the entire company offshore facilities such as the platforms and rigs and mobilised thousands of barrels of oil field chemicals, over a 1,000 miles of casing, wellheads, and countless other items."
He said the achievement was the result of a strong teamwork and a commitment to safety by all members of the team, regardless of positions. This would not have materialised without the daily efforts of each and every member of the Operations Support team.
Comparing the achievements of the shorebase operations team with injury rates at the warehousing and transportation industry, Brett Doherty, RasGas' chief safety, health, environment and quality officer, remarked that intuitively one would expect more injuries to occur in the warehouses, based on industry data as opposed to the stellar record achieved by this organisation.
"This has only been possible through a combination of exceptional safety culture and work principles," said Doherty.
