Dubai, 27 July 2004 (WAM) -- Minister of Agriculture and FisheriesSaeed Mohammed Al Raqbanai issued today a resolution forming the nationalteam for the third phase of the project for transfer of the bio-technologyfor fighting the palm red weevil.

The team will be led by Abdullah Al Amiri and have Salah AbdullahMusa, Nematodes expert, Saeed bin Awash, Fungus expert and Ali Shahdad,Coordinator of red weevil field studies as members. Experts of NematodesDr. Satmi Abdul Rahman and Fungus Refat Al Safati will also join the team.

According to the resolution, the Khartoum-based Arab Organisationfor Agricultural Development (AOAD) will bear the expenses of those expertsduring the term of the project from July 2004 to July 2006.

The minister also named a technical taskforce to establish cooperatiuonwith the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment an Development.

The taskforce, to be headed by Abdullah Ahmed Abdul Aziz, Acting UnderSecretary for Agricultural Affairs, is work with the Authority to developagricultural programmes on genetic engineering techniques and bio-controlof pests.
