Lulu Hypermarkets, a division of retail group EMKE is to open a hypermarket in the Karama area of Dubai.

MA Yusuffali, managing director of EMKE said: "In keeping pace with the rapid all round development taking place in Dubai we see great potential for our kind of hypermarkets especially in a residential area like Karama.

Construction of the 100,000 square foot hypermarket has started and it is expected to be operational by mid 2007. Immediate projects also include openings in Aden, Kuwait, Muscat, Riyadh, Al Khobar and Manama.

Yusuffali added: "Line Investment and Property LLC, our shopping malls division has ventured into many projects in the GCC and India.

"Khalidiyah Mall and Al Wahda Mall, the two mega projects in Abu Dhabi are nearing completion are already fully leased out. Al Raha Mall on the Abu Dhabi - Dubai highway, of which we recently took the management rights, is being leased out now.

The group plans reach 60 hyper and supermarkets next year. It currently has 51.
