The biggest mosque in Dubai is scheduled to open on Friday July 29, just days ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
The opening will be marked with Friday prayers. The rulers and sheikhs from across the emirates have received invitations to attend the opening ceremony. The mosque will cater to Al Safa area and its neighbourhoods.
Named Al Farooq Mosque and Islamic Centre, the whole complex is built on 8,700 square metres and is inspired by the 17th century Sultan Ahmed Mosque (also known as Blue Mosque) in Istanbul, combining Ottoman and Andalusian architectural styles.
The mosque itself is being built on 4,200 square metres and can accommodate 2,000 worshipers.
The mosque will have a library of 4,000 Islamic and other religious titles to help advance learning and a lecture hall that will be host to inter-faith dialogue to forge better religious understanding.
