At least 10,000 schoolchildren from the public and private schools and those with special needs, will take part in the 'Mini-Marathon Ras Al Khaimah' on April 8.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the Ras Al Khaimah Hilton, Sheikh Montaser bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee, said that it will be opened by Sheikh Omar bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Head of the Financial Control Department at the Ras Al Khaimah Government.

It is being organised by the Emirates Sports and Cultural Club, to show sympathy and solidarity with the Iraqi children, and sponsored by Ras Al Khaimah Etisalat and RAK Bank.

One of the key objectives of the marathon is to achieve international peace and security and unite nations of of the world.

The Organising Committee of the race has invited all the sports clubs of the UAE, elementary school students, clubs and schools for the handicapped, and athletes to enter. Everybody is welcome to join in, he said.

It is coordinating with the Ras Al Khaimah Educational Zone to provide 30 sports teachers to serve as umpires and supervise and observe the competitors.

More than 500 posters were distributed among the governmental and private firms in Ras Al Khaimah. A large number of sign boards have been installed on all the roads of the emirate. Etisalat has prepared more than 1,000 caps for distribution among participants.
