Ras Al Khaimah Waste Water Agency (Rakwa) said it has signed a treated sewage effluent (TSE) water sale agreement with Durrat Al Khaleej Sweet Water Company in a move aimed at 10 per cent reuse of TSE.
The agreement would see some 2500 cu m of TSE water, per day, delivered to Durrat Al Khaleej in the second quarter of 2020.
The Rakwa aims to increase this volume to around 5000 cu m per day by the first quarter of 2023, said senior officials at the recent signing ceremony.
A government agency under the Public Service Department, Rakwa is responsible for providing wastewater services to the northern emirate.
It has made significant investments during the past three years to improve its wastewater infrastructure with a program of refurbishment and expansion and is currently developing a Master Plan to provide long term plans, programmes and investments, stated the officials.
Currently 70% of treated waste water is being reused in Ras Al Khaimah for irrigation of the city or commercial and industrial use. But this agreement will see a significant step towards Rakwa vision to reuse 100%, they added.-TradeArabia News Service
