Rural Areas Electricity Company Co (RAECO) will start using an automatic system for generating job interview questions in the near future.

Majid Khamis Ambusaidi, the Human Resources Manager at RAECO, said, "The system is expected to become operational by July or August. This system will help prepare a list of interview questions to match the profile and competencies of a particular candidate. The programme aims at defining three kinds of competencies - core, departmental and individual. The system will automatically generate questions as per requirements."

Faiz Mohammed Nasser al Rahma, training and development section head at RAEC, said, "The system will help screen candidates who can match 80 per cent of our requirements.

"In the next phase of development, we will focus on identifying skills upgrade and training requirement gaps to help candidates attain senior positions in the corporate hierarchy."

The first phase for preparing the employees of RAEC and training them on the programme was held from

January to March while the second phase is being held this month whereas the third one will be held in June. "In the first phase, employees were briefed on a job seeker's analytical and reasoning skills. In the second phase that is currently going on, two employees from each department are taking part in the programme," Ambusaidi said.

"The project is being implemented by two companies - Achievement Centre and a company based in Canada called Human Resource Systems Group (HRSG)," he added.

"The course held in the first phase was titled 'Competency Based Management', which aimed at training managers and senior managers."

Both second and third phase of training will see participation of 25 employees. The third phase will include practical training for participants on how to implement the programme. "The project is part of the company's vision to boost employees' productivity and their career development. Around 125 persons joined different branches of RAEC in 2011," Ambusaidi said.

According to Ambusaidi, this system has already been implemented in the electricity sector. "Similar system has been implemented in other sectors but not at this scale," he said.
