Abu Dhabi: The ground at the Al Jazira club will be at its best for the matches of the 18th Gulf Cup, a senior club official assured.
The ground at the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium, which will host the matches of the first group of the regional tournament from January 17 featuring hosts UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Yemen has come under some criticism lately. In fact the UAE played two friendly matches earlier this month at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Al Wahda club, in view of the renovation work that was being carried out at the Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium.
"We have signed a contract with the same company that maintains Emirates Stadium of Arsenal in London to maintain and prepare our stadium," Mohammad Thani Al Rumaithy, chairman of Al Jazira club's board of directors, said. "The contract for maintenance is worth Dh2 million, which, I believe, is enough to maintain not just one but three stadiums and it will also help ensure the quality of the ground at our stadium before the Gulf Cup," Al Rumaithy added.
"We guarantee that our stadium will be of a high quality and in keeping with international standards," Al Rumaithy said.
