Doha  -  The Traffic and Patrols Department has launched an awareness campaign targetting instructors of the local driving schools and trainees. The campaign is carried out by the 'National Campaign for Road Accident Prevention' and aims to ensure safety on Doha roads and curb the alarming rates of accidents.

As part of ongoing awareness drive, members of the committee visited Qatar Driving School recently. The function was attended by the driving instructors and trainees along with the school manager, Sameer Muhamed Salih.

The lecture delivered by Officer Fahad Shareedah, a member of the committee, focused on traffic guidelines for the new drivers. Accidents can be avoided or at least reduced through strict adherence to the traffic law. Reckless driving, violation of the traffic law provisions and technical unfitness of vehicle are among the major causes of road accidents, Shareedah added.

For the sake of maintaining the technical fitness, a motorist has to carry out periodic maintenance and check-ups of his vehicle. Ignoring such procedures can result to fatal accident the motorist's own life and others. Road violations are exposed huge fining and recording of points against the violator as part of the point system that was introduced with new traffic law last year, noted the official.
