The Qatar Railways Development Company (QRDC) participated in the seventh annual Middle East Rail 2013 Conference held at Dubai World Trade Center. The show was opened by Mattar al-Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai, UAE. Saad al-Muhannadi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)  of Qatar Rail, took part in several keynote sessions at the conference and was joined by regional industry leaders.

Speaking at the conference, al-Muhannadi gave a comprehensive presentation about Qatar Rail and the progress of the project. He said: "The Qatar Rail Project is in line with the vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and the wisdom of Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in meeting the targets of both the 2011-2016 National Development Strategy and the Qatar National Vision 2030."

He said the integrated rail system, to be developed and managed by Qatar Rail, will be an essential part of Qatar's urban infrastructure and to be recognised as one of the most successful, safe and environmentally friendly railways systems in the world. Briefing the esteemed gathering, he said the system will meet the increasing demand of Qatar's growing population and give a huge momentum to the country's modernisation drive.

On the progress of the project, he added: "The delivery of the Qatar Rail Development Programme is progressing at a fast pace. It will not only provide the people of Qatar with an efficient and environmentally-friendly travel option but it will bring greater recognition to the State of Qatar within the global transportation industry."
