Doha - Darinfo, Dar Al Sharq's research and training wing, yesterday launched a journalism training course for young Qatari nationals.
Up to 40 graduates both male and female are attending the course, which was inaugurated by Ibrahim Al Sayed, Deputy General Manager of Dar Al Sharq.
Professors of journalism from Qatar University will give lectures and provide valuable tips on how to become a good journalist duringg the five-day course.
Darinfo's Director, Yahya Alawad A Adam, said at a press briefing this was third in a series of journalism training courses being held mainly for nationals. Darinfo launched its training programme in December 2005.
The wing has since provided training to 167 people, more than 100 of whom were citizens. In addition, 35 youngsters approached the Centre directly to gain work experience in the print media.
A major achievement of the Centre has been that it brings out an Arabic-language monthly titled 'Qatar Fasih' ('Locals') which is edited entirely by a group of 15 young citizens trained by Darinfo.
"These are young and very talented Qatari journalists," said Yahya Alawad, who is himself a veteran journalist. He will also be lecturing at the training course.
He says after the five-day training is over, the participants will be sent for practical training to the various publications of Dar Al Sharq, including The Peninsula.
