DOHA: Qatar Charity's Education project 'Al Furqan integrated educational centre' in Tengaran, Semarang regency, Central Java province of Indonesia was opened on July 24.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Indonesian People Consultative Assembly, DR. Hidayat Nur Wahid, along with officials from Central Java government, representative of some local NGOs, delegation of Indonesian Foreign ministry.

Al Furqan Education Centre was launched in 2008 by the Charity and was financed by Qatari philanthropists. The project stands on 12,600 square meters of land and consists of two-stories school buildings of 12 classrooms and two offices; a clinic; five dormitories with canteen, fountain and pathways; a mosque; an administration building, two shops, a multipurpose room, a laboratory, a library, two water wells, a grassed football field; a concrete-floored basketball field; two concrete-floored badminton fields; a fountain-park; a parking lot; and paving-blocked boulevard.

The project is one of several projects implemented by Qatar Charity in other parts of Indonesia as a contribution to the country's efforts to improve the quality of education in devastated area due to natural catastrophes.

In his speech, Hidayat expressed his appreciation to Qatar Charity for participating in developing and improving of education in Indonesia.

The Director of Qatar Charity's Indonesia Office, Hasan Azekour, noted that Qatar Charity development programme in Indonesia is based in the development plan of Indonesian government and its Millennium Development Goals.

The Governor of Central Java province said that the centre will help the locals get access to educational services.
