DOHA - Charities in the country get their funding from various sources, including investments.

Executive Director of Qatar Charity Abdullah bin Hussein Al Naama told Al Sharq that other sources of funding include donations, Zakat and sadakat (alms). "International aid grouds also help charity organisations as well as institutions like the Islamic Development bank (IDB)," he said.

However, one problem is the uncertainty of getting donations. "Because of this, we work on strategic plans.

We also have Iftar programmes and several projects, some of which we conduct jointly and others, individually."

Speaking of Qatar Charity, he said the organisation had played an important role in relief work in disaster areas. "We also help people earn an income by teaching them skills like dairy farming and pottery," Abdullah said.

Among the works done this year in the country, Qatar Charity has donated items like air-conditioners and electronic items to needy families. "This year, we have been involved in 1,124 projects at a cost of QR72.4m in 31 countries," the official said.

The latest project being carried out by Qatar Charity is the training of teachers in Somalia, he stated.
