DOHA - The Central Municipal Council (CMC) will set up a task force to formulate a uniform design to the government buildings in Qatar.
The CMC yesterday approved a recommendation submitted by a panel set up by it to formulate a guideline for giving a uniform look to the buildings in Qatar, especially to government buildings.
The Task Force will have its members from various agencies, including different municipalities, Urban Planning and Development Authority, The Public Works Authority ( Ashghal) and CMC. It will submit a report regarding the implementation aspect of a uniform building design and colour.
In its recommendation to the CMC, the panel suggested to ensure that while constructing buildings, the concerned parties are either following traditional Qatari architecture or GCC architecture. It has also asked the CMC to prepare a panel of Consultants and ask them to present their model designs. The Task Force can select one of these designs, the report said.
The panel's recommendations also included a proposal for changing the names of various locations, roads squares and streets.
Meanwhile, a section of members criticised the panel for its 'undue' delay in submitting their report. They wanted to dissolve the present committee and to set up a fresh one.
