Doha: Al Jazeera Satellite Channel (JSC), the leading Arabic news TV channel, signed yesterday a contract with Afkar Information Technology, one of the leading IT firms in the region, to design and develop an advanced intranet solution.

The new Intranet solution will ensure a higher level of performance and increase productivity of JSC's employees worldwide, an Afkar statement said.

One of the key parts of the Intranet is the financial and human resources (HR) management system, which will allow authorised employees to exchange information and data through an integrated system. In addition, the system will provide financial reports and analysis that would ease the work and enable decision-making process at JSC, it said.

The project will be implemented using the latest Microsoft tools and technology, including Microsoft Great Plains for financial/HR management, Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server for electronic document/workflow management and Microsoft SQL Server database. All will utilise the new Microsoft.NET technology.

JSC Administration and Finance Manager Ali Abdullah Al Suwaidi said: "It will be possible now for our employees to search in thousands of documents, circulars and files ensuring that information can be easily found". "This empowers our employees to complete their jobs more efficiently and productively".

He said there was a real need to build an advanced Intranet application accessible to all, introducing a secure environment to publish information and automate work processes.
