The public will be given access to the Geographic Information System (GIS) data collected by Dubai Municipality in the next three months, an official said.

Manal Al Shamlan, Head of GIS Development Unit in the Geographical Information Centre of the municipality, announced this during a presentation on "GIS Uses of Remote Sensing and Hydrological Assessments for Dubai Emirate."

Satellite images and the remote sensing techniques help the municipality locate potential ground water sources.

The presentation was made on the sidelines of the Water and Energy Technology and Environment Exhibition being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Manal also gave an overview of the Dubai GIS Intranet (www.dugis.ae).

She also gave a detailed account of the use of satellite technologies in civic services such as environment, public properties and GIS.
