LONDON: SONY Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Modern Electronics Company (MEC) announced the launch of PlayStation 3(PS3) in Saudi Arabia Thursday.

Following the hugely successful launches in Japan and North America, the highly anticipated home entertainment system is expected to drive a vast number of shoppers to retail outlets across the Mideast.

Tim Stokes, sales & marketing director, SCEE said, "PlayStation3 follows in the hugely successful footsteps of its two predecessors PlayStation and PlayStation2 (PS2) and like them PS3 is breaking new ground across the world of entertainment. We feel it not only provides a whole new high definition gaming experience but is set to revolutionise the way we watch movies, listen to music, view photos and access the internet."

PlayStation 3 has the ability to play 'Full' High Definition (1080p) Blu-ray movies and video games, in addition it has a built-in hard drive (60GB) for storing all your favorite movies, songs, games and downloads.

There is a wide range of games available from today including Resistance Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Genji: Days of the Blade, Formula One Championship Edition and Ridge Racer 7 to name but a few.

Badr Al-Swailem, general manager, MECL said, "All Sony World Show Rooms will be decorated with the PS3 theme for the launch on March 22. The slogan is 'This is Living'. The PS3 will really make you feel that you are getting the best out of your gaming making it a real live experience. I would encourage every one to visit out Show Rooms to come and experience 'What is High Definition' through PS3."

The PlayStation 3 (60Gb) console is priced at a recommended retail price of SR2,499 with games priced from SR 229, also available are PS3 Wireless Controllers as well as PS3 Blu-ray remote controller and HDMI Cables.

PlayStation 3 is now available from all leading retail outlets in Saudi Arabia including; Modern Electronics, Tokyo Games, Computer House, Toys R Us, Extra, Electro, E-Max, and Best.
