KUWAIT: With the commencement of the new parliamentary term, the government's agenda for the next four years has been divided into three main phases and policies; the population issue, managing the labor markets, and public education policies.

One government official explained that the first element of the plan aims to limit the total number of expatriates living in Kuwait during the plan's four-year tenure and reduce the flow of unskilled workers into the country. The official said that four separate projects, projected to cost a total of KD 4 million, are to be launched to limit the problems related to unskilled expatriate workers, protecting borders against infiltration and resolving the problems faced by illegal residents in Kuwait.

The official also revealed that the government's agenda included projects to develop the skills and qualifications of the Kuwaiti workforce in a bid to 'Kuwaitize' more jobs in the country, reported Al-Rai. The plans include limiting expatriates' stay in Kuwait to a maximum of six years for unskilled workers, eight years for those with medium skills and 12 years for skilled professional ones.

Moreover, the agenda includes plans to arrest illegal residents and take proper legal action against them and against those who harbor them, in addition to deporting and blacklisting them.
