ABU DHABI, 16 Dec. 04 (WAM)-- In an effort to regulatethe issuance of sick leave/work fitness certificates byprivate sector medical practitioners, the Director of theSharjah Medical District, Shaikh Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi,has issued circular No. 1475/2004 limiting private sectorspecialist doctors to giving a maximum of seven days sickleave and general practitioners (GP) to giving just threedays sick leave to patients.

If private sector GPs and specialist want to issue sickleave to patients for longer periods they must prepare andsubmit a detailed report on the patient to the Private MedicalPractice Department at the Sharjah Medical District, saida report published today in the Dubai-bassed + KhaleejTimes+.

These reports will be forwarded to the Sharjah MedicalCommittee to decide accordingly the period of sick leavepermitted according to the relevant laws governing thisissue.

Work fitness report booklets will be issued by the PrivateMedical Practice Department. Work fitness reports issuedby private sector doctors will not be authenticated by thePrivate Medical Practice Department if they are not issuedin accordance with the articles of Ministerial Decree No.

358 for the year 1995 concerning the regulation of workfitness certificate issuance. Violations will be legallychallenged.
