Dubai: The prices of basic commodities displayed little change this week with slight decreases recorded in the costs of key commodities such as wheat flour and rice, according to data supplied by the Ministry of Economy.

The cost of red onions imported from India remained the same at stores in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi while the cost of yoghurt increased by Dh1 in Dubai, it remained the same in stores in Abu Dhabi.

The price of wheat flour dropped slightly at Carrefour stores in Dubai, which also recorded a drop in the price of tea bags. The price of white sugar stayed the same at stores in Abu Dhabi but increased from Dh3.50 to Dh6.50 at the Al Ittihad Cooperative Society and from Dh4.35 to Dh4.45 at Carrefour in Dubai.

The price of beef and locally produced fish remained largely the same in both emirates.

Consumers would spend the same amount on five kilograms of Basmati Tilda rice imported from India as they did two weeks ago but would spend less if they opted for Rozanna or Indian Gate rice at Abu Dhabi stores.

The price of white bread remained largely on par with the costs recorded in previous weeks.

The cost of wheat flour dropped slightly at Carrefour stores in Dubai from Dh8.15 two weeks ago to Dh7.25 this week.

Carrefour also dropped their prices of Close Up toothpaste, Dove Deodorant, almonds and animal shortening. The price of mutton imported from Australia fell at Lulu Stores in Abu Dhabi, as well as the price of Lurpak butter imported from Denmark and cheese imported from the Czech Republic. The price of whole fresh chicken also dropped at the Al Ittihad Cooperative Society in Dubai.
