The closing date for bids on the marine works package (MA1) for the estimated Dh6 billion Presidential Palace project in Abu Dhabi's Ras Al Akhdar area has been extended to April 4, according to a contractor pitching for the project. The new complex will have a total built-up area of about 220,000 sq m and be built between the existing Presidential Palace and the Emirates Palace Hotel.
At least 10 bidders have been prequalified for the contract, including Al Jaber Engineering and Contracting; Al Futtaim Carillion; Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company; Turkey's Nurol Group; South Korea's Samsung; Oger Abu Dhabi, the local affiliate of Saudi Oger; and Saudi Binladin Group, says a Meed report.
Several joint venture bidders have also been invited to collect documents. They include Al-Habtoor Leighton with South Africa's Murray & Roberts Contractors Middle East; a venture of Brazil's Odebrecht and Arabian Construction; and a joint venture between Six Construct Abu Dhabi and Arabtec, it said.
"The UAE-based Dutch Foundation has already started work on the enabling package for the palace," said the report. While US-based RW Armstrong are the project managers, the architects are Ewan Architectural & Engineering, UK's WSP is the engineering firm and Haj Gulf are cost consultants.
