AMMAN -- Poland has a growing interest in Jordan, with efforts being exerted to bolster political and economic cooperation between the two countries, European officials said late Thursday.

EU Ambassador to Jordan Joanna Wronecka said she always encourages her Polish colleagues to enhance relations with Jordan.

"Poland can offer a lot, and Jordan now is a very privileged partner with the European Union," Wronecka noted, adding that for the EU, Jordan is a very important country in the region, especially if the Kingdom "will become a non-permanent member at the Security Council".

The EU ambassador was speaking at the "Past-Present-Future: Bonds between Poland and Jordan -- Europe and the Arab World" book signing ceremony.

Published by the embassy of Poland in Jordan in cooperation with Al Rai Centre for Research and edited by Polish Ambassador in Amman Krzysztof Bojko, the book "was published to mark the 50th anniversary of establishing the Polish diplomatic mission in Jordan", Bojko said at the ceremony.

The book contains papers submitted at two international academic seminars, which took place at Al Rai Centre for Research, in addition to the ninth Regional Business Forum "Poland Closer 2013" that was held this year.

It is "the fourth publication by the Polish embassy in Jordan and shows the growing interest of Poland in Jordan", Bojko added.

He said the publication "will continue to have a great impact and provide knowledge about our countries".

Also on Thursday, the Polish embassy launched the "What is Poland about?" project in Amman.

According to Piotr Leszczyski, consul of the Republic of Poland in Amman, this project seeks to bring Polish art and language closer to the Polish community living in Jordan and to all Jordanians interested in Polish culture and traditions.

Implemented in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality, it includes lectures about Frédéric Chopin's music heritage, Polish national heroes, sports in Poland, Polish Christmas and the Muslim community in Poland.

The project includes 12 special Saturday events at Al Hussein Cultural Centre in Ras Al Ain and continues until February 22, 2014, according to a statement from the embassy.
