Amman, Jan. 20 (Petra)

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour highlighted the need to solve problems facing the passengers at the Queen Alia International Airport, mainly the issue of late arrival of passengers' luggage.

During a tour of the Luggage Inspection Department at the airport, Ensour pointed to complaints made by passengers about the late arrival of their luggage and called for taking measures to address this problem.

He also urged all the concerned staff to accelerate the process of inspecting the luggage while at the same time taking into consideration the issue of security.

The prime minister, who was accompanied by the transport minister, the board chairman of the Royal Jordanian (RJ), chief executive officer of the RJ and the CEO of Airport International Group (AIG), was briefed about the efforts being made to provide facilities to the passengers in terms of reducing the time to claim their luggage.

Ensour also inspected the northern terminal of the airport which has been out of service for two years as it was in need of maintenance work.

He said the increased traffic through the airport requires a quick rehabilitation of the northern terminal to absorb it, especially since the airport is capable of absorbing 12 million passengers following the latest expansion.

Ensour also attended the inauguration ceremony of the Luggage Inspection Center at the airport which was established by the government in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The prime minister voiced thanks and appreciation for the Japanese support to the Kingdom which enabled it to implement developmental and services projects.

The Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, Junichi Kosuge, said the equipment used at the Center was a result of a $14 million Japanese grant, stressing that this equipment will help raise the efficiency of the inspection process.
