MUSCAT -- The first-ever 'World Perfume and Bukhoor Exhibition' to be held in the Sultanate is scheduled to take place from March 11-14, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre (OIEC) it was announced at a press conference held by the event organisers, Al Noman International Exhibition (NIE) at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Al Khuwair yesterday. Said al Rawas, Member of the Board of Directors and Mohamed Hilme Halim, Executive General Manager of NIE, addressed members of the press corps about the exhibition.

It was noted that local, regional and international companies will be participating in this inaugural 'World Perfume and Bukhoor (incense) Exhibition', which, as the organisers pointed out, is set to become an annual event. Besides Oman, participating countries include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, Iran, Yemen, Pakistan, India, China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia besides other countries. Arabian countries have a strong tradition in perfumery that goes back hundreds of years and this trend has continued with universally renowned brands such as Amouage.

Bukhoor's popularity goes back to the times of antiquity with the important trade of frankincense and myrrh, which emanated, and is still produced, in Salalah. There has been something of a revival of this pungent aromatic incense that combined with the array of eastern and western perfumes, to be put on display, will provide visitors and traders an opportunity to see and sample these fragrant offerings. Having such a variety of perfumes and incense on display under one roof is a unique opportunity for suppliers and retailers to strike trade deals and for other visitors to take note of what the world of perfumery and incense has to offer. This is especially so for the lesser known brands.
