MUSCAT -- The Capital Market Authority (CMA) has informed insurance companies and brokerage firms in the Sultanate that the Orange Card Auto Insurance System will be implemented with effect from September 1, 2008. The Orange Card auto insurance will be limited to the seven approved companies by the Omani Unified Office for the Orange Card, that meet the requirements of the General Arab Insurance Union. They are Dhofar Insurance, Oman United Insurance, Ahlia Insurance, Al Madinah Al Khalijiyah Insurance, Omani-Qatari Insurance, Muscat Insurance, and Falcon Insurance. The Orange Card is an auto insurance policy approved by the General Secretariat of the Arab Insurance Union.

It was also approved by the Arab countries that signed the Arab unified auto insurance card. Holders of Orange Cards can access any Arab country that has signed the agreement without the need to have additional insurance cover for their vehicles. In case of accidents in any of these countries, the processing of the claims arising from such incidents will be processed by the Unified Orange Card office in that country.

Accordingly, the Orange Card will be the policy that covers insurance for the Omani vehicles outside the Sultanate & insured by a third party after the above mentioned date. Insurance covers outside the Sultanate executed before September 2008 will remain valid till their expiry.
