Doha: Ooredoo has tied up with Level 3 Communications to launch content delivery network node in Doha, the company announced yesterday.

The agreement aims to enhance connectivity and offer businesses a more extensive breadth of services for connecting to Qatar, the Middle East and around the world, the company said. The strategic long-term agreement, which enables both companies to offer enhanced wholesale business services, was signed at a ceremony at Ooredoo headquarters recently.

"The launch of this new Level 3 content delivery network node in Doha is an important next step in our international connectivity strategy to make Qatar one of the best-connected countries in the world," Yousuf Al Kubaisi, Chief Wholesale and International Officer of Ooredoo, said.

Since Ooredoo launched wholesale operations in 2010, IT and broadband requirements in Qatar have grown by more than 40 percent. In response, in 2012, Ooredoo built landing stations to connect to the Tata Global Network and Gulf Bridge International underwater fibre optic cable systems, transforming Qatar into a global hub for international wholesale services.

The two cables have also helped Ooredoo to manage the increasing demand for wholesale voice and data services in Qatar, by bringing an important, global, high-speed route for data and voice communication, as well as adding greater capability and resilience to network infrastructure.

"Delivering enhanced IP and content distribution services for business customers in Qatar and around the world will help grow Qatar's small- and medium-sized enterprises and Qatar's knowledge-based economy," Al Kubaisi said. Level 3 Communications is also providing Ooredoo with increased IP connectivity at multiple points of presence (PoPs) across Europe.

Businesses in Qatar and the Middle East will benefit from enhanced distribution of their content across Level 3's global content delivery network node. In turn, businesses in the United States and Europe can access new markets in Qatar and the Middle East using the enhanced services. "Level 3 Communications has a strong history of commitment to Middle East service providers, including Ooredoo," James Heard, Level 3's Regional President of EMEA said.

"As a result of this agreement with Ooredoo, Level 3 will enable greater connectivity for businesses in Qatar and businesses looking to connect to the Qatar market, as well as more reliable and scalable IP network services."
