DUQM: Sheikh Al Fadhil bin Mohammed Al Harthy, secretary-general of the Council of Ministers, inaugurated Omran's City Hotel Duqm, a three-star business hotel equipped with comfortable rooms and business amenities.
The hotel is Omran's first hospitality tourism development in the Al Wusta governorate and caters to business travellers seeking affordable and contemporary Omani hospitality.
Accompanied by members of the board of Duqm Special Economic Zone Authority (DSEZA) and Omran officials, Al Harthy was taken on a tour of the hotel characterised by local Omani features that create a welcoming ambience. "Omran has demonstrated steadfast commitment to the Sultanate and its people by developing strategically located facilities that are in line with His Majesty the Sultan's far-reaching vision of economic and social prosperity for all. With continued expansion of the DSEZ including the port, airport and other economy-driving infrastructure, the wilayat is anticipated to become a source of wealth for the nation, and it is imperative to have facilities such as City Hotel Duqm," said Al Harthy.
"The planning of the city requires a diverse offering of tourism and residential projects and we are delighted to see the progress with which these projects are being delivered and the close coordination between the Authority and Omran has helped reduce the time required for obtaining the required permits and utilities which is a key objective of the establishment of the authority," added Yahya bin Said Al Jabri, chairman of DSEZA.
Nasser bin Khamis Al Jashmi, chairman of Omran and undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas, added, "City Hotel Duqm will serve the growing number of business travellers coming to Duqm and will address the shortage of accommodation.
"Omran is dedicated to creating memorable tourism destinations that support the country's growth, generate jobs and create direct and indirect opportunities for local communities." Consisting of 120 single, double, twin rooms and five suites, City Hotel Duqm was soft-launched in May 2012 with an immediate positive response in the market.
The hotel is ideally fitted out with a multi-cuisine restaurant, business centre and other services expected by the modern business traveller. It is ideally located within close proximity to the Duqm Port, dry docks, airport project, oil refinery and other industrial ventures.
"Omran has invested in several projects in Duqm and we are now gearing up for the opening of the first luxury hotel in Al Wusta early next year," Al Jashmi noted.
Omran is mandated by the government to deliver major projects and manage tourism assets and investments. This is in line with the government's vision of positioning tourism as a major economic driver of the future and as a generator of employment.
Omran's growing project portfolio includes some of the largest developments in Oman such as the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. Having delivered the second Asian Beach Games facilities in record time and with an impressive health and safety record, it is now focusing on the delivery of its numerous projects.
