MUSCAT -- Omantel is the IDEA sponsor of the first ever TEDx forum held in the Sultanate, an event committed to helping the spread of great ideas and innovative concepts. As a supporter and main driver behind the introduction of innovation in telecommunications in the Sultanate, the company welcomed the opportunity to participate in this unique forum was held at the new Millennium Hotel at Musannah.

TEDx is a nonprofit organization devoted to 'Ideas Worth Spreading'. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TEDx has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TEDx Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.

TEDx speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Commenting on their support for TEDx Muscat, Hamdan Moosa al Harasi, Senior Manager-Events and Sponsorship at Omantel explained:

"We are fully committed to the support of innovation and technological advancement in Oman and have a policy of actively supporting events that can help encourage new innovation to help the economic development of Oman. A number of senior Omantel executives were present at the TEDx event and were actively involved in the debates and discussions during the one-day event."
