Omantel and Nawras have recently signed a contract for telecommunication network backbone agreement.
Omantel will provide Nawras with a state-of- the-art fibre optic backbone network for its transmission requirements.
After signing the agreement, Mohammad Al Wohaibi, Omantel executive president, said: "The agreement represents significant cooperation between Omantel and Nawras affirming that Omantel will lease some capacities of its networks to Nawars that allow efficient and technologically advanced usage of Omantel's extensive network."
He further added that Omantel, the main telecom operator in the Sultanate, is committed to play its key role in ushering in liberalisation of the telecom sector in the country.
"Under this agreement we will extend full cooperation to Nawras and provide them with state-of-the-art facilities in order to give the best service to the customers. We are looking at a long-term relationship and have signed a 15-year agreement," he added.
Omantel's fibre optic network is built around four major rings covering various parts of the Sultanate. The Metro ring connects the major areas of greater Muscat. The Northern ring loops around Ghubra, Izki, Nizwa, Sohar and Ibri. The Eastern ring covers Ghala to Sur via Kamil, and the Southern ring stretches from Nizwa to Salalah to Bahja.
