Muscat - Telecom services provider Omantel recently completed major enhancement of its 4G and 3.5G networks in Dhofar governorate to meet the needs of the overwhelming number of visitors to the region during this monsoon season.

The enhancement, which involved installing new permanent and temporary stations, will not only enhance coverage but will further increase the capacity of the networks to handle increasing demand during this period of the year, especially for broadband services, a press release said.

Commenting on the network enhancements Haitham Abdullah al Kharusi, vice president of consumer business unit at Omantel, said, "During this period of the year, Salalah welcomes tens of thousands of visitors from the sultanate and neighbouring countries. We are committed to ensure that our customers along with in-roaming customers enjoy the best experience during their visit."

"This year, our teams have completed the programme to enhance the coverage of our 3.5G network as well as of building new 4G LTE sites in new areas in the governorate to accommodate for the customers' demand for broadband services. This is part of Omantel's strategy to provide our customers with the best broadband experience through the widest coverage, broadest choice and superior quality," Kharusi added.

"In addition to these permanent stations, Omantel mobilised several mobile stations in order to boost the network during this event. These mobile stations help prevent any interruption of the network due to the increased demand on services compared to normal times," he said.

Once again, the telecommunications company is the main sponsor of the Salalah Tourism Festival, an event that attracts tens of thousands of visitors.

Omantel has deployed Wi-Fi zones at key attraction areas including Khareef festival grounds and other tourism attractions. On a promotional basis Omantel Hayyak and Mada mobile broadband customers can enjoy free Wi-Fi as part of the benefit for their MMB plan packages, the release added.
