MUSCAT -- Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club will officially be unveiling Oman's first grass championship golf course on Thursday at an event attended by senior Omani dignitaries, government ministers, sports and media representatives. Anticipated to be the most unique and breathtaking golfing experience in the Gulf, it is set to be the dawn of a new sporting era for the Sultanate, placing the country on the regional and international golfing map. The event will celebrate the opening of its first nine holes and the ceremonial first drive down the fairway will be struck by leading local golfer, Azaan al Rumhy, who plays for the Oman National Golf team.
Al Rumhy, who is currently based in Thailand, will be flying in for the exclusive occasion. The nine holes will be open to the public from May 2. This is the first phase to open in the Muscat Hills project that once completed will consist of the first grass 18-hole championship golf course with the potential of hosting an International PGA Tour event in 2011. It is a project that has been driven by the vision of enthusiastic golfer His Highness Sayyid Kais bin Tarik al Said, and hopes to attract premium golf tourism and worldclass golfers from across the globe.
"The entire Muscat Hills team, together with Southern Golf Oman who constructed this unique course is very proud to have helped bring the vision of HH Sayyid Kais bin Tarik al Said's to life by building the most remarkable golf course in the entire Middle East, here in Oman that uniquely blends into the mountain terrain of Muscat Hills," says Chandra Lahiri, Group Managing Director of Muscat Hills. When completed the Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club will include an exclusive residential development, boutique resort hotel and a premier Country Club located just a few minutes drive from Muscat's Seeb International Airport.
