MUSCAT -- The Wave, Muscat, Oman's leading tourism and beachfront residential development, has announced the signing of a landmark contract with Boskalis Westminster Middle East the operating company of the Netherlands-based Royal Boskalis Westminster NV, the world leaders in marine dredging works. The inking of the contract marks one of the strategic stages in the progress of the premier projects.

The move to involve the world-leaders in dredging also reflects the commitment of The Wave, Muscat's developers to work in synergy with reputed companies to ensure the success of the project, which will soon join the league of the top residential community projects in the Middle East. Following the agreement, Boskalis dredgers will be deployed on-site in the coming weeks.

The dredging and filling activities will involve Queen of the Netherlands, a 175-metre-long dredging vessel, as its pumping lines will extend onshore, where dredged sand will be compacted to form the main development platforms for The Wave, Muscat. Talking about the agreement, Ahmed Binbrek, Deputy Chairman of The Wave Muscat said: "We are happy to announce this landmark dredging contract with Boskalis Westminster Middle East, who have carved a niche for themselves in the dredging industry worldwide.

This agreement is part of our initiative to work with the best companies in their respective fields. Our association with Boskalis epitomises our competitive edge and implementation of the best environmental monitoring systems throughout the project, set to become one of the most significant international destinations." In his comments on their contract with The Wave, Muscat, K A Vakanas, Director and General Manager, Boskalis Westminster Middle East, said: "We are extremely excited to be involved in the creation of The Wave Muscat. We are confident that our extensive experience gained from similar infrastructure projects worldwide, coupled with our expertise in the Middle East, will add value in executing this project."

Royal Boskalis Westminster's core activities involve the construction and maintenance of ports and waterways, land reclamation, coastal defence and riverbank protection. The company has a versatile fleet of over 300 units and operates in over 50 countries across five continents. Including its share in partnerships, Boskalis has over 7,000 employees. An integrated waterfront development, The Wave, Muscat is a joint venture comprising Oman's Waterfront Investments, which includes the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, the National Investment Funds Company, which represents the Omani Pension Funds and State General Reserve Funds, and the UAE's Majid Al Futtaim Investments.

Overlooking the Gulf of Oman near the Seeb International Airport, The Wave, Muscat will be a fully master planned community occupying a total area of 2,500,000 square metres along 6km of natural beach. The project will involve infrastructure development and site improvement, which will also have a signature 18 hole green golf course, 300 berth marina, 4 luxury hotels, villas, retail and restaurant outlets.
