TUNIS (ONA) - A seminar on "Oman in the literature of travellers and geographers" was held at the Maghreb Culture House here yesterday as part of the ongoing Omani cultural week in Tunisia. It was presided over by State Adviser Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed al Harthy and Mohammed al Aziz Ben Ashour, Tunisian Minister of Culture and Heritage. The seminar touched on the importance of Oman's cultural and historical role since the pre-Islamic era. The seminar drew on the writings of Arab travellers and geographers who toured the region and commented on the civilisations of the its countries.

Meanwhile, a poetry evening programme was held at the Al Qairawan city's cultural centre. The activities also come within the context of celebrations marking the designation of Muscat as Arab Cultural Capital 2006. Poets who participated in the programme included Dr Saeeda bint Khater and Omar Mohammed Mahroos. Meanwhile, an art show was staged by Al Nujoom (stars) troupe at Bazghwan Culture House.
